Submit to Startup Buffer

One Sentence, Then Three or Four More. Free at DR 43.

Written by Submitator, which submits customers to Startup Buffer. What follows was read from its site on 29 September 2026.

Startup Buffer is a public startup directory, online since 2015 by its own footer, and its About page puts the idea in a sentence: "Startup Buffer is a public directory for finding startups by market, location, tags, and related products." It reads 43 on our Ahrefs checker.

It costs nothing to list, and the form asks for writing rather than checkboxes: a short pitch of one clear sentence, a full description of at least three or four sentences and a screenshot. Every listing page we opened, old and new, linked out to its startup with a followed link.

We submit customers here and do that writing. The pitch and the description are written for this directory, the screenshot is sized to its upload limit and your own email goes in the first screen, so the edit link reaches you.

3. Add discovery detailsCountry, city, category, up to eight tags, a YouTube link and three social pages, all optional
Where the edit link goes

The first screen explains the email field in one line: "These details identify the startup and let us send your private edit link." There is no password. Changes later happen through a magic link that expires in 30 minutes, sent to that address, so it has to be one you read.

Domain Rating by Ahrefs

Per startupbuffer.com, its home page, /site/submit, /site/about, /site/contact, /site/tos, /site/privacy, /promote, /account, /llms.txt, robots.txt, its sitemaps and 244 listing pages at /startup/<slug>, read on 29 September 2026; nothing was submitted or bought, and the three screens were read without being sent. The form text is quoted as served and matches the founder's screenshots of it. The 244 pages are the 21 listings shown as newest on the home page and every ninth entry of the 2,029 startup addresses in their sitemap; each links to the listed startup twice, from its Visit Website button as well as a plain address, and all 488 of those links are rel="noopener" only, go straight to the startup and carry nothing that marks them nofollow, ugc or sponsored. All 244 pages are served with meta robots "index, follow" and a self-referencing canonical. Country pages (/locations/) and market pages (/markets/) are indexable and in their sitemaps; city and tag filters are served with noindex, follow and point their canonical at the country page or at /search; the AI market page reads "Browse 326 AI startups on Startup Buffer." The screenshot label reads "max 500kb" and the step does not continue until an upload succeeds. Package prices and wording are quoted from /promote, all marked "Launch pricing": Publish $19.95, Power $49, Vanta $299, each listing a "Permanent dofollow directory link". The review time is quoted from /site/contact. Their counter reads 2,148 live startup profiles. Their robots.txt disallows AhrefsBot and several other SEO crawlers; that does not change the Domain Rating Ahrefs gives startupbuffer.com, which comes from sites linking to it, but it can keep an individual listing's link out of Ahrefs backlink reports. Domain Rating is Ahrefs' figure via submitator.com/domain-rating-checker, which returned 43; the domain was registered on 16 January 2014. Submitator's founder states that we submit customers to Startup Buffer, write a unique description for each directory and cut images to each site's format, and that the customer gives us their email and we enter it. Starter is $29 for 30 directories, Growth $49 for 60 and Scale $79 for 100, each paid once and chosen in the dashboard; a rejected submission is credited back as another directory to choose, and refunds follow the 30-day conditions in our terms.

Three screens and a private link

The form runs over three screens, and each one saves as you go: pressing Continue on the first creates a draft on their side. Screen one is the startup's name, website and a business email. Screen two is the writing and a screenshot, and it will not let you continue until the screenshot has uploaded. Screen three is a set of optional details, then "Submit Now".

No account is needed to submit. Their account page describes the rest: "Sign in with your email to update submitted startups, review listing health, confirm freshness, and manage promotion options tied to your profiles." Each listing carries a freshness label, and confirming it is done from that same email.

The pitch and the paragraph

Screen two sets the tone for the whole listing: "Write this for someone deciding whether the startup belongs on their shortlist." The short pitch is "one clear sentence" and the full description "at least 3-4 sentences".

A shortlist reader wants four things: which buyer it serves, what pain it takes away, the way it does that and the price. One sentence each is the description they ask for, and the pitch is the first of those sentences said as plainly as possible. Listing pages are titled with the startup's name followed by "Reviews, Features & Alternatives", so the description is what a searcher lands on.

Where the optional fields put you

Screen three is optional, and it decides which browse pages you appear on. Country and category are the two that matter most: each country has an indexable page under /locations/ and each of the 26 categories one under /markets/, such as the AI page that opens with "Browse 326 AI startups on Startup Buffer." City and the up to eight tags narrow those pages as filters, which are not indexed on their own.

So pick the country first (the city list only appears after it), then the closest category, then tags a visitor would actually type. The YouTube, LinkedIn, X and Facebook fields are there if you have them.

$19.95 for the front of the queue

Listing is free, and the wait is stated plainly on their contact page: "Reviews can take 1-2 months due to high demand." The paid packages on /promote exist around that queue. Publish, $19.95 at launch pricing, does one thing: "Move your listing ahead in the review queue". Power at $49 adds two weeks on the homepage, a newsletter placement and a social post, and Vanta at $299 stretches the homepage run to three months.

Every package lists a "Permanent dofollow directory link", and listings added as far back as January 2020 carry the same followed link. Their own note on timing: "Dofollow links apply once a listing is public."

We write both texts and size the screenshot

Startup Buffer's form is mostly writing, and writing is our job. The one-sentence pitch and the three or four sentence description are written for Startup Buffer, each other directory in your plan gets text of its own and the screenshot is cut to fit their upload limit.

The email on screen one is yours: you give it to us and we enter it, so the private edit link and anything they send about the listing reach you. Category and links come from the profile you keep in our dashboard.

Startup Buffer review: the short answer

Submit. There is no fee, the rating is 43 on our checker and every listing page we opened links out followed and indexable. The price is writing, one clear sentence and three or four more, plus a screenshot under 500 KB. That writing is what we do.

How to submit to Startup Buffer, step by step

  1. 1

Use an address that will receive the edit link

The business email is where the private edit link and later magic links arrive. A founder or team address you will still read in a year is the right one.

  2. 2

Write the pitch as one sentence

Who it is for and what it does, in plain words. The form asks for one clear sentence, and it is what a shortlist reader sees first.

  3. 3

Give the description three or four sentences at least

Start from the pain, then the fix, the buyer and the price. Write it for someone comparing options, because that is who the form says will read it.

  4. 4

Upload a screenshot under 500 KB

The label says max 500kb and the next step stays locked until an upload succeeds. A clear product or homepage screenshot, compressed, is what they ask for.

  5. 5

Pick the country, then the category

Those two decide the indexable pages your listing appears on. The city list opens once a country is chosen.

  6. 6

    Add up to eight tags

Separated by commas, in the words a visitor would search for, like their example: onboarding, CRM, sales automation.

  7. 7

Decide on the queue package separately

The free listing needs nothing more. Every package on /promote is optional and none is needed for a listing.

  8. 8

    Or send it through us

We write the pitch and the description for this form, size the screenshot, enter your email and file it alongside the directories you picked.

A pitch and a paragraph here. Two hundred and fifty words on the next. $29 writes and files all thirty.

One payment, thirty directories picked in the dashboard with the Domain Rating on each card, a unique description for each one, screenshots cut to every site's format and a rejection credited back as another directory.
